Due of his dread of heights, Mononosuke struggled on as Kaido and Yamato fought on, with Yamato eventually hurting his father. By claiming that the residents of Wano never would trust him since he was her (Kaido's) son, Kaido made fun of his son's commitment to preserve Wano. He proceeded to mock him by claiming that he was friendless. By bringing up Ace and those childhood samurai who helped him live, Yamato refuted it, as well as by trying to bring up Ace's name.
When Mononosuke opened his eyes, he saw Kaido and Yamato standing on the rooftop. Kaido was knocked out by the combination of Luffy's Snakeman: Jet Culverin assault and Yamato's Shinsoku Hakujaku strike, which the latter joined in Gear 4 to execute.
